Angel La Rinascente, Milan 2010 Menu Next
The Angel- Cartridge paper, watercolour paper, adhesive, nylon.
Commissioned by Milan department store, La Rinascente, The Angel is a realisation of the human form in paper. The figure was constructed through the use of flat patterns, akin to the use of panels in dress making, or the development of sheet metal forms. Emphasis was placed on maintaining a simple construction, while conveying an appropriate level of detail.
The wing comprises twenty metres of pleated cartridge paper, which is suspended in the window space with monofilament nylon. The tension and flexibility of the pleated sheet allowed it to take naturally to a flowing form.
Angel Statuette
A small scale replica (490 x 220 x 170mm) of the original Angel figure. Exhibited at the touring exhibition Block Party with the Crafts Council, September2011- January 2013. Click here for the Crafts Council website.
